Late Night DeFi Campaign: A New Era for TON’s Decentralized Finance

The Late Night DeFi campaign has officially come to an end, leaving a significant imprint on TON’s decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem. Traditionally dominated by whales, the DeFi space has often left everyday users on the sidelines. TON set out to change that with the Late Night DeFi initiative, aiming to make DeFi more accessible, engaging, and rewarding for all participants.

Launched in September 2024, the campaign brought together TON Society, TBook, and leading DeFi projects like Tonstakers, bemo, STON.fi, DeDust, Storm Trade, and EVAA. Powered by Soulbound Tokens (SBTs), the campaign worked to broaden DeFi education and engagement through a combination of livestreams, offline events, and AMAs, while delivering impressive results.

Campaign by the Numbers: A Massive Success

By the close of 2024, Late Night DeFi achieved remarkable results, generating over 1.9 million TON in Total Value Locked (TVL) and attracting 94,176 participants, all of whom collectively claimed over 40,000 SBTs.

Here’s a breakdown of the most engaged participants by strategist role:

• Tonstakers Strategist: 9,042 claims

• Bemo Strategist: 7,815 claims

• Storm Trader: 5,968 claims

• STON Herald: 5,852 claims

• DeDust Herald: 5,649 claims

• EVAA Pawnbroker: 5,706 claims

Additionally, the DeFi-Gamer overlap was notable. 13,594 participants (14.5%) held USDT, while 33,735 participants (35.98%) held at least one major TON memecoin such as NOT, DOGS, CATI, WAT, HMSTR, or Durev. This crossover between DeFi players and gamers sets the stage for a deeper GameFi-DeFi integration in 2025.

Airdrops: Boosting Participation and Engagement

One of the standout features of the campaign was the airdrop distribution. Over $100,000 has already been allocated in two phases:

• Phase One (October 2024) rewarded early contributors to Late Night DeFi TVL.

• Phase Two (early 2025) will honor those with exceptional engagement, further fueling the growth of TON DeFi.

Moreover, a number of project-specific rewards were distributed:

• Storm Trade distributed 50,000 STORM tokens.

• bemo provided $10,000 in stXP.

• EVAA rewarded users with exclusive XP rewards.

What made Late Night DeFi so successful? A key factor was the use of Soulbound Tokens (SBTs), which served as a powerful tool to drive community engagement. The implementation of Compressed SBTs (cSBTs) helped reduce campaign costs by over 50%, enabling larger-scale incentivization without the hefty price tag. Bundling minting proofs into a single transaction also lowered gas fees, allowing projects to mint millions of tokens with minimal cost.

Verifiable SBTs (vSBTs) took this further by ensuring that only genuine DeFi contributors were rewarded. This approach not only helped build trust but also directly contributed to the 1.9 million TON in TVL, showcasing the real impact of SBTs in fostering genuine participation.
