DOGS Token to Donate $4.5M in Unclaimed Airdrops to Charities, Announces Partnership with Best Friends Animal Society

DOGS, a memecoin launched on The Open Network (TON), has revealed plans to donate over 6 billion tokens—worth approximately $4.5 million—to nonprofit organizations globally. This donation comes in the wake of the launch of a new charity portal in late November, designed to allow registered nonprofits worldwide to apply for funding.

The initiative marks a significant step in DOGS' commitment to channeling unclaimed airdrop tokens into charitable causes. Over the next year, the funds will be distributed to selected organizations through a thorough approval process.

Partnership with Best Friends Animal Society

A major part of this charitable initiative is DOGS' partnership with Best Friends Animal Society, a U.S.-based nonprofit organization focused on animal welfare. DOGS has pledged $150,000 to the society, supporting its mission to reduce the number of homeless pets and end the killing of animals in shelters.

“We are excited to partner with Best Friends Animal Society in the fight to help every shelter reach a 90% no-kill benchmark by 2025,” said Andrew, founder of DOGS. “This collaboration will also fund one month of care for adopted dogs, directly contributing to improving their lives.”

This partnership underscores DOGS' broader vision of using cryptocurrency and the global crypto community to advance social good, with a focus on animal welfare and tangible changes in shelter practices across the U.S.

DOGS: A Symbol of Digital Resistance

The DOGS token takes inspiration from an iconic dog drawing by Pavel Durov, co-founder of Telegram. The symbol represents Digital Resistance, a tribute to Durov’s experiences in 2011, when he was pressured by Russian authorities to remove posts by dissidents and liberal thinkers. The DOGS token, launched in 2023, also reflects the TON rebrand following Durov's arrest in France in August.

Since its launch, the DOGS project has gained widespread attention. In September 2023, it launched an airdrop that reached 17 million users. Additionally, the Dogs Mini App on Telegram now has over 53 million users, with 42 million eligible to receive the airdrop. This initiative aims to boost crypto awareness on the platform while promoting the welfare of animals.

Spotty: The Mascot for Animal Welfare

As part of its collaboration with Best Friends Animal Society, DOGS' mascot, ‘Spotty,’ will serve as the organization’s ambassador. Initially created by Durov as part of a charity auction, Spotty has become a prominent symbol for The Open Network (TON).

Since its debut, the DOGS token saw an all-time high of $0.0016 on August 28, 2023, even causing TON to temporarily go offline. However, like many memecoins, DOGS has faced significant market volatility. The token has dropped 54.6% from its peak and has seen an additional 4% decline recently, following the broader retreat in the memecoin market.
